The Human Body
It comprises living cells and extracellular materials, organized into tissues, organs, and systems.
It is primarily composed of water and organic compounds, lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids.
Water, making up about 60% (varies by age) of body weight, is crucial for life's chemical processes, found in both extracellular fluids and within cells, serving as a vital solvent.
The skin and related structures form the integumentary system, safeguarding the body from harmful invaders and chemicals while also preventing water loss.
Comprising skeletal muscles and bones (about 206 in adults), the musculoskeletal system facilitates body movement and shields internal organs.
Incorporating breathing passages, lungs, and respiratory muscles, the respiratory system acquires vital oxygen from the air for cellular metabolism and expels waste carbon dioxide.
The circulatory system, comprising the heart, blood, and vessels, circulates fluid throughout the body, furnishing cells with oxygen and nutrients while removing waste like carbon dioxide and toxic compounds.
The digestive system comprises the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines, breaks down food into usable nutrients, absorbing them into the bloodstream, and eliminates the remaining waste as feces.
Consisting of kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, the excretory system filters toxins and waste from the blood for elimination.
The nervous system formed by sensory organs, brain, spinal cord, and nerves transmits sensory data, integrates it, and triggers appropriate muscular or glandular responses.
Composed of hormone-secreting glands and tissues, the endocrine system coordinates body processes via a chemical communication network.
The reproductive system, encompassing male or female sex organs, plays a crucial role in facilitating reproduction.
In males, this system includes structures such as the testes, which produce sperm, and in females, it comprises the ovaries, which produce eggs.

ORGAN SYSTEM RANKING:
(these are just my subjective preferences, i don't wanna remove any of them or anything)
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM (C): a perfectly functional system, does what it says on the tin, a good baseline to judge the others by.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM (A): fun and intuitive to use, with sophisticated engineering behind it. the choice of using bacteria to assist digestion is ingenious. no notable flaws.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM (D): it does it's job pretty decently, but it's too vulnerable. a cut artery can spell near-certain death, which is unreasonable given how unprotected they are.
URINARY SYSTEM (C): a perfectly respectable system, with an unfortunate name. nothing to write home about.
INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM (B): the outer part of the human body, it does a good job at making us look good - it's mediocre on defence. it would've been in C, but hair is cool enough to boost it up.
SKELETAL SYSTEM (S): structural, stylish, spooky, skeletal. S tier.
MUSCULAR SYSTEM (A): helpful for almost anything you'd want to do, and additionally - it's one of the only systems that gets stronger the more it's used.
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM (D): occasionally fun, but usually just confusing and distracting. the idea isn't bad but it needs a better execution.
EXOCRINE SYSTEM (F): adds slime where no slime is required. takes your water to make more slime, even when you are low on water. when have you ever wanted more mucus, earwax, eye goop or skin oil? never.
LYMPHATIC SYSTEM (S): the bodies army, which suppresses almost all invasions before you even notice them. if you are reading this, then your lymphatic system has never lost a war - if it loses, you die. it has a weapon prepared for every possible enemy.
NERVOUS SYSTEM (A): they managed to make a supercomputer out of wet meat, this would have earned it S-tier if they didn't have to cut a few corners to do so.
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM (D): it's a perfectly functional and even fun system on it's own, but it's been the root of loads of social problems like sexism, transphobia and homophobia.

Just learned that estrogen is necessary for bone health, and testosterone is for muscle health.
So bones are women and muscles are men. Which explains why women give me a boner and men make my meat hard

72 hours until my in-person callback
...with the neuroendocrine surgeon! 😜
Confirmed: there is a lesion on my pituitary gland which may be either a pituitary adenoma, a Rathke's cleft cyst that's behaving like a pituitary adenoma, or both. Whatever you wanna call it, it seems to be the source of all this crap, and surgery will be the next step.
I am SO grateful to the scheduling team for following through on their promise to call me the second a cancellation came up so I wouldn't have to wait until mid-September. I can't wait to SKIP off the subway into the UES on Tuesday morning (if not physically, then spiritually). I can't wait to MAYBE HOPEFULLY have surgery scheduled by this time next week, to get this stupid tumor thing off my pituitary gland for good.
I'm starting to feel some sadness about the prospect of leaving this apartment. This second-story walkup studio, the first lease I ever signed. This apartment was my dream for so long. For a whole year, I got to live that dream--and for half of that year, I even got to pay for it myself.
It's weird, as a person who believes in disability pride and abhors capitalism, that my two primary goals right now are (1) obtain this surgery so that I can become healthier, (e.g., less disabled), and (2) in doing so, obtain the ability to work as hard as I can, so I will have a shot at attaining financial independence again, and maybe even retaining it this time.
But no. That's not it. What I want is to feel better, so I can do more things that I love, and earn enough of my keep to have my needs met and be able to give back to the world in a meaningful way.
I want to work because there are so many things I enjoy working at. I want to make money because participating in capitalism is the only way to ultimately free yourself from its trappings and help others do the same.
And also, I want to sing and dance and roller skate and walk in the woods and read all the books and pet all the cats and bake cookies from scratch and engage in all the niche fandom content and visit my family and friends whenever I want and host them for holidays without worrying about whether or not I'll have the energy.
Tuesday will bring me one step closer to all of that. Thank God. God is still good.
Just over 71 hours.

I am 28 years old and I am 5 foot 10 and wear a size 20. I work with a personal trainer, I don't eat a lot, and I do my best to eat mindfully. I also have several recently diagnosed chronic conditions, Autoimmune, Dysautonomia, and endocrine, though the symptoms have been around most of my life. These are genetic conditions and they are not caused by my weight.
They believe if I lose weight they will go away.
Growing up my family always made comments about my weight as well as others. Most everyone in my family is over weight. I would run miles every day in high school and skip meals and still hear how i needed to lose more. I became the DSM5 definition of bulimic, made easier by other abuse going on in my life.
Now, I am a happy person and happy with myself. I'm not at the weight I want to be, but I don't discuss my weight with anyone outside of my doctor. If my family asks I tell them I am doing my best and discuss my medical condition challenges. They have offered gastric bypass and lap band surgery unsolicited. At a party someone brought up my weight to try and help me and in that I found out people have been discussing it behind my back out of concern. So I sent this text:
Hey family,
I have heard for quite some time that there have been conversations about my weight with others in the family, though not to me. Recently, this has come to my attention, again.
My doctor and I are both aware and in agreement that my weight is not our primary concern. This is due to my other medical conditions taking priority, especially as my weight did not cause these genetic conditions.
Despite this, I still consider it a priority and I've seen progress: weight loss, more muscle, less body fat, smaller measurements. This is because:
• I have met with professionals (nutritionists, doctors, therapist) to review my eating habits, avoid disordered eating, and how we can manage my conditions and side effects impact on my progress.
• I work with my personal trainer and we track my progress. Also, I'm adding more physical activity as I can.
While appreciate the love and concern from everyone, I do not want my weight to be a topic of conversation when I am not in the room. I hope you will all respect that. There is no need to respond to this message as I trust that any of my family, whom I truly love and who I know love me, will not be discussing my weight amongst each other ever again.
Thank you
In response I had two people get very upset. Saying that I should have just let it go. That people talk because they care. That's what a family is. That they are worried they will need to bury me. That my text was dismissive and uncaring. That it's not about my looks (for some) I told them these conversations are hurtful and as they don't know my weight it must be based of my looks. I was told when I really want a husband and kids I will lose weight, I won't be truly happy till l do lose weight. I told them, aside from this I am happy, I my weight isn't a requirement to happiness or marriage, and that their conversations make me feel ugly and want to go back to disordered eating. That it's hurtful when I am doing everything I can, they know I didn't eat a lot, and I'm fighting my body in other ways. It makes me feel like l'm failing. That at the very least I didn't need to hear about these conversations and I didn't need it discussed at family events.
Was my message so wrong? Does anyone else struggle with this? I love my family so much. I'm doing everything i can to keep loosing weight and it never seems enough, not just for my family but for my body. It just won't go down more.

Make-up Toxicity
I, like many people of my generation, love makeup.
Tumblr media
Growing up during the late 2000′s and 2010′s cosmetic influencers played a very important role. To this day there are many young Gen Z’ers and Gen Alphas that are coming into contact with make-up content, and generally love cosmetics.
Tumblr media
Cosmetics are not just make up, “ A "cosmetic" is any substance used to clean, improve or change the complexion, skin, hair, nails or teeth. Cosmetics include beauty preparations (make-up, perfume, skin cream, nail polish) and grooming aids (soap, shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant).”
We don’t discuss enough how absolutely dangerous some of these products  are on the market.
I’m not just talking about your cheap dollar store make-up.
I am 100% talking about your super popular favorite eye-shadow palettes, your $60+ foundation, and your most loved mascara.
I am talking about your body wash, lotion, and even your aluminum free deodorant. Your toothpaste, your hair creams, and your gel nail polish that you cure with a uv lamp.
Tumblr media
These chemicals are being placed on parts of your body that are supremely delicate, and your body is processing (or not) all of the materials within those products.
I feel completely psychotic writing this all down, and I doubt anyone will stop to read. You probably already think I’m crazy.
But when it comes to cancer, we shouldn’t play around, and although cancer related deaths have gone down due to medical advances in treatment and pharmaceuticals, we still need to have a discussion on why it is rates of cancer are going up so rapidly in the under 50 category.
I am not for banning every single chemical that has a minute chance of causing cancer or endocrine disruption, but I am for smarter and longer studies of the chemicals being placed in our daily cosmetics.
A lot of these cosmetic companies are given the go ahead to release their products to the public, as long as they do not cause any dramatic allergic reactions, but we need to be practical and make sure that the FDA is doing their due diligence.
Most of us grew up eating frozen dinners out of plastic microwaved trays, we had Johnson & Johnson baby powder placed on our bodies daily, we wore/wear chemical filled deodorant, and still continue to bathe ourselves in very unnatural but nice smelling soaps.
And as for POC, like myself, we grew up from a young age getting relaxers done on our hair and keratin treatments.
Tumblr media
It is not logical or rational to say that one item in your regimen is going to cause terminal cancer, but a life long interaction with a multitude of products that can raise your chances... you need to ask yourself these questions: “What is this? Where did it come from? Why am I doing this? And is it worth it?”
I can talk about a million different things that we need to change in this world, like what is our furniture made up of, and are you sure your home was built with materials that are safe for you to live in, what about your mattress?
Are you cooking with plastic utensils, eating off of plastic plates, and cooking on a scratched up non-stick pan? Cause I know I am. I have. And I’m learning that much of the things that are natural to me, in this world, are not safe. Much of the food and products we consume on the daily are putting our families at risk.
So please do your due diligence and take care of yourself in a way that your government won’t.

Glamour or Good Health?
Well, well, well...
Happy Wednesday Evening, Tumblr Users.
I bear great news; you've made it half way through this week! Congrats!
A little lesson for you all;
Glamour and good health don't just fall into place; nor are they a hand-in-hand deal.
Shucks! I just *really* wanted to look chic while I have a hypoglycemic episode in front of a bunch of nurses!
News flash: yours truly has had an upfront experience - don't wear white to the endocrinology unit... you *won't* leave with white clothes...
You'll also look as if you're hung over, and to make you feel worse? You get a nurse escort to follow you around the unit during your fake 'walk of shame'.
Once you have your 'low', and they do copious amounts of testing, they'll try to correct your blood sugar right up until you're actually *feeling* hung over.
All in all, I would say that glamour and good health aren't always an iconic duo...
-10/10, would not reccommend.
XOXO,
Emi Girl <3

Finding the Best Endocrine Surgeon in Madurai: A Comprehensive Guide for Your Health Needs
When dealing with disorders of the endocrine system, such as thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland problems, or other hormone-related conditions, seeking the right specialist is crucial. Endocrine surgeons are highly trained in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect these glands through surgical interventions. In Madurai, the demand for specialized care in this field has grown significantly, making it important to choose the best endocrine surgeon for your health needs.
In this blog, we will guide you through finding the best endocrine surgeon in Madurai, focusing on why expertise in endocrine surgery is vital, the types of procedures performed, and how Preethi Hospitals, Madurai, offers top-notch care for patients with endocrine disorders.
Understanding the Role of an Endocrine Surgeon
Endocrine surgeons specialize in treating diseases related to the body’s hormonal system. This includes glands such as the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and the pancreas, among others. These glands are responsible for producing and regulating hormones that influence critical bodily functions like metabolism, growth, and reproduction.
An endocrine surgeon is trained to treat conditions like:
Thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer
Hyperparathyroidism (excessive parathyroid hormone production)
Adrenal tumors
Neuroendocrine tumors
Pancreatic endocrine disorders
Surgical intervention becomes necessary when these disorders cannot be effectively treated through medication alone. Precision in surgery is vital because these glands are located near critical structures like the vocal cords, esophagus, and blood vessels, requiring high levels of expertise and experience.
Why Choose the Best Endocrine Surgeon?
Choosing the best endocrine surgeon in Madurai ensures you receive the highest level of care and the best possible outcome. Some of the reasons why opting for an experienced surgeon is important include:
Minimally Invasive Surgery: Advanced techniques in endocrine surgery now enable surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures, which result in smaller incisions, reduced pain, and faster recovery times. A well-trained surgeon will prioritize these modern methods for better patient comfort.
Precision and Expertise: Endocrine surgeries are highly delicate, as they involve operating near essential glands and nerves. Only a skilled surgeon with vast experience can perform these surgeries safely, minimizing complications and ensuring a quicker recovery.
Comprehensive Care: A top endocrine surgeon will also provide post-surgical care and monitoring to ensure hormone levels are stabilized after surgery, which is critical for long-term health.
Common Procedures Performed by Endocrine Surgeons
Endocrine surgeons in Madurai treat a wide range of conditions that may require surgical intervention. Here are some common procedures they perform:
Thyroidectomy: This surgery involves removing all or part of the thyroid gland to treat conditions such as thyroid cancer, goiter, or hyperthyroidism.
Parathyroidectomy: The removal of one or more of the parathyroid glands to treat hyperparathyroidism, a condition where excess parathyroid hormone is produced.
Adrenalectomy: This procedure removes one or both adrenal glands when tumors or other abnormalities are detected.
Pancreatic Surgery: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors often require surgical removal to prevent their spread or complications.
Minimally Invasive Procedures: With advancements in technology, many of these surgeries can now be done using laparoscopic techniques, which involve tiny incisions and the use of cameras for precision surgery.

Qualifications and Certifications: Ensure that the surgeon is board-certified and has specialized training in endocrine surgery.
Experience with Specific Procedures: It’s important to choose a surgeon who has successfully performed a high number of the type of surgery you require.
Hospital Affiliation: The hospital where the surgeon practices should have the necessary infrastructure and support to handle complex endocrine cases.
Patient Reviews and Testimonials: Look for feedback from previous patients to gauge the surgeon's expertise, bedside manner, and overall care quality.
